why i’m running
To prioritize essential city services with funding and policies that affect our day-to-day life.
To connect our communities to resources and the 45 city departments that serve them.
To re-evaluate current policies and enhance measurable impacts of the City’s community investments to optimize outcomes.
To implement solution-based approaches to address our city’s most urgent challenges.
To create an open line of communication, access, and transparency to our elected leaders and decision-makers.
My Seattle Roots
I have always leaned into my name Joy. From a young age, connecting my spirit of an optimistic outlook to vision, purpose and drive.
For three generations, my working-class family has called the Central District home.
My mother worked at King County Housing Authority and my father worked at Seattle Parks & Recreation. My grandfather made history by becoming the first Black teacher at Queen Anne High School— and standing 5 feet 2 inches, my grandmother Dorothy Hollingsworth was a bridge builder and a visionary who used her sense of humor to find common ground, open doors, and open minds serving on our Seattle School Board.
From my non-profit work at an after-school program with youth, coaching collegiate women’s basketball, building a small-family-owned business, advocating for community reinvestment policies with city and state legislators, and working on the frontlines of fighting food insecurity— this has been my journey.
I would be honored to earn your support, your vote and to serve as your Seattle City Council District 3 member.
